23/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 23 May, the European Commission announced that it was launching a call for contributions to help shape its new Data Union Strategy, which is due to be presented in the second half of 2025. In particular, it wants to gather information on the use of data for artificial intelligence and on international trade flows. The aim of the Strategy is to improve data sharing between sectors and member countries, by promoting “interoperability and security of exchanges”. The European Commissioner for Technological Sovereignty, Henna Virkkunen, alluded to this during her hearing at the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13522/4), and this ‘Strategy’ is one of the pillars of the Commission’s ‘AI Continent Action Plan’, presented last April (see EUROPE 13616/8). The consultation is open until 18 July. View the consultation: https://aeur.eu/f/h0g (IS)
