05/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 5 May, the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) launched a consultation on draft technical standards for the regulation on environmental, social and governance (ESG) ratings for companies. The text will apply eighteen months after its entry into force, in December 2024. The draft standards cover: information to be provided in applications for authorisation and recognition; measures and safeguards to mitigate the risk of conflicts of interest within ESG rating agencies that carry out other activities; and information to be communicated to the public. ESMA encourages entities intending to apply for registration as an ESG rating agency, financial market participants and users of ESG ratings or rated entities to participate in the consultation, which is open until Friday 20 June.
