05/05/2025 (Agence Europe) – In a statement published on Monday 5 May, the Federation of the European Sporting Goods Industry (FESI) and more than 150 stakeholders in sport and physical activity called on the European institutions to make sport a priority in the next Multiannual Financial Framework (MFF) 2028-2034. The signatories detail the economic, social and health benefits of sport to support their application for funding from flagship programmes such as Erasmus+, Horizon Europe and EU4Health. “Sport is a powerful tool to build healthy and resilient societies”, said FESI General Secretary Jérôme Pero in a press release. Underlining that the sector represents 2.12% of European GDP and over 5 million jobs, the declaration also calls for sport to be recognised as a strategic sector for the EU.
