15/04/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 14 April, the European Commission launched a 12-week public consultation, running until 8 July, to gather the views of stakeholders on elements of the evaluation of the Emissions Trading System (ETS) and the Market Stability Reserve, with a view to their review in 2026. In accordance with the “evaluation first” principle, both initiatives must therefore be evaluated before being submitted for review. The directive governing the ETS has already been revised for 2023 as part of the ‘Fit for 55’ package. The clauses for a future review of the ETS1 aim to assess potential adjustments to the system for aviation, maritime transport and stationary installations.
