20/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – According to the NGO Zero Waste Europe, the European co-legislators “have abandoned their ambition” for the revision of the framework directive on textile and food waste, in the provisional agreement reached on Tuesday 18 February (see EUROPE 13583/4). The NGO regretted that the European Parliament was sidelining its objectives because of a “political shift to the right”. Zero Waste Europe mentions, among other things, a “a far lower target for the manufacturing and processing sectors at a meagre 10%”. Furthermore, the legislation makes no provision for measures against food loss and waste at primary production level, “despite recordings by Eurostat showing at least 11% of food is lost at the primary production, or ‘farm level’”, explained the NGO.
