12/02/2025 (Agence Europe) – On the day of their publication in the Official Journal of the European Union on Wednesday 12 February, the European Commission announced decisions approving the registration of three new agricultural products in the Community register of protected geographical indications (PGIs). One of them is ‘Walloon Honey’, from production apiaries in Wallonia, Belgium. The ‘Yläsavolainen muurinpohjalettu’ PGI designates a thin Finnish pancake made from a batter of milk, flour, eggs and salt, which is then cooked in a cast-iron frying pan. It is produced in the Upper Savonia region (Ylä-Savo). Finally, the ‘Cavaillon Melon’ has a PGI. This is a yellow Charentais-type melon grown in France, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence, Bouches-du-Rhône, Var and Vaucluse. These new designations have been added to the list of 3,646 products already protected at EU level. (LC)
