European Parliament opposes placing on market of two transgenic maize varieties

12/02/2025 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 12 February, in the name of protecting public health and biodiversity and respecting the EU’s international commitments, the European Parliament opposed two European Commission plans to authorise the placing on the market of two genetically modified maize varieties in the EU. The European Parliament rejected (476 votes in favour of the objection, 156 against and 18 abstentions) products containing MON 95275 maize, genetically modified to be resistant to various maize rootworms. It also rejected (477 votes in favour of the objection, 152 against and 20 abstentions) the placing on the market of products containing insect-resistant and herbicide-tolerant genetically modified maize DP910521. On this GMO, the European Parliament considers that “the genetically modified maize produces the Cry1B.34 toxin and is resistant to the herbicide glufosinate(see other news). (LC)
