28/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 28 January, Spanish Secretary of State for European Affairs Fernando Sampedro Marcos reaffirmed that Spain wished to obtain Member States’ green light as regards granting Catalan, Basque, and Galician the status of official languages of the European Union (see EUROPE 13332/20). He hoped that the Polish Presidency of the EU Council would be able to put this issue on a ministerial meeting’s agenda, notably mentioning the informal meeting in Warsaw on Tuesday, 18 February. Outside the General Affairs Council, Mr Sampedro Marcos stressed that [the Spanish delegation is] working on this issue “not hastily but continuously”, reiterating that the Spanish authorities were willing to cover all costs related to obtaining this status for the three regional languages.
