On Tuesday 28 January, the European Commissioner for Intergenerational Fairness, Youth, Culture and Sport, Glenn Micallef, met thirty young people in Athens for a dialogue on youth policies.
Discussions focused on the theme: “All in: Promoting Inclusiveness through Sports and Culture”, to encourage young people’s access to culture and explore the role of sport as a lever for social inclusion.
The aim was to discuss access to culture and cultural heritage for young people, a priority that Commissioner Micallef has taken to heart, as he pointed out, advocating making these resources more accessible.
Sport was also presented as a vehicle for inclusion, in line with the ‘EU Work Plan for Sport’ (2024-2027). Participants exchanged ideas and presented initiatives such as the European #BeInclusive award, Erasmus+ Sport and DiscoverEU.
The Commissioner affirmed that sport and culture have the unique power to bring communities together, calling for a collective effort to strengthen equal access.
This dialogue, in line with the European Year of Youth 2022, follows the Commission’s commitment to involve young people in the development of EU policies, in order to build a more inclusive and cohesive European Union through their active contribution. (Original version in French by Nithya Paquiry)
