27/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 27 January, the NGO Protect Humanitarians and the Alliance of Ukrainian Civil Society Organizations (‘Alliance UA CSO’ signed a ‘Memorandum of Cooperation’ at the European Parliament to strengthen the protection of humanitarian workers in the country. The aim of this partnership is to promote the sharing of experience and to support Ukrainian humanitarian workers exposed to increased risks in the field. Between 2023 and 2024, attacks on these workers rose by 28.5%, with a 38.8% jump in fatalities. The signatories call for greater mobilisation to guarantee their safety and well-being, including better access to resources and psychological support. In mid-January, the European Commission stepped up its financial support to meet urgent humanitarian needs in Ukraine (see EUROPE 13556/3). (BD)
