On Friday 24 January, the European Disability Forum (EDF) published a list of ten priorities addressed to the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
The programme calls for urgent implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) in all EU policies and legislation.
EDF also calls for the strengthening of the European Disability Rights Strategy (2025-2030), both by fully implementing current initiatives and by redefining new actions.
The fight against discrimination, particularly on the grounds of gender and disability, and participatory decision-making to ensure genuinely inclusive policies are also advocated.
Other priorities include accessible digitalisation, affordable assistive technologies, inclusive transport and a socially equitable ‘European Green Deal’. Finally, EDF is calling for real freedom of movement, through the recognition of social benefits abroad.
The aim is to build a roadmap for a more inclusive European Union, ahead of the review of the CRPD scheduled for March.
