23/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 23 January, the European Commission approved the registration of two new agricultural designations. This is the Romanian Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) ‘Jidvei’, which designates white, rosé, red, sparkling and liqueur wines produced from grape varieties grown in the Alba region. The vineyards are laid out in large plots as well as on terraces and south-facing platforms, which offer good conditions for growing grapes. The Commission has also registered the Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) ‘Silifke Yoğurdu’, a fermented milk product made exclusively from goat’s milk from the Mersin region in southern Turkey. These new names will be added to the list of 3,640 agricultural products already protected at EU level. (LC)
