21/01/25 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission has registered a European Citizens’ Initiative (ECI) entitled ‘HouseEurope! Power to Renovation’, on Tuesday 21 January. The organisers are asking the Commission to propose legislation to encourage the re-use of existing buildings, based on: - “tax reductions for renovation works and reused materials”; - “fair rules to assess both potentials and risks of existing buildings”; - “new values for the embedded CO2 in existing structures”. The organisers have six months in which to start collecting signatures. If an ECI receives at least one million supporters in one year, with a minimum number reached in at least seven different Member States, the Commission will be obliged to react. (AD)
