21/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – As previously announced (see EUROPE 13555/8), on Tuesday 21 January, the Council of the European Union formally adopted the regulation that will facilitate the exchange of and access to health data at EU level. The regulation on the European Health Data Space will now be officially signed by the EU Council and the European Parliament. It will come into force 20 days after its publication in the Official Journal of the EU. Under the new rules, individuals will have faster and easier access to electronic health data, regardless of whether they are in their home country or another Member State. They will also be able to control the use of this data more effectively. EU countries will be required to set up a digital health authority to implement the new provisions.
