Polish Presidency of EU Council details its vision of actions to be taken to develop European AI ecosystem

In a document dated Tuesday 14 January and discussed the same day in the ‘Telecommunications’ working group, the Polish Presidency of the Council of the EU develops its vision of new ‘artificial intelligence factories(AI Factories), which should form a pillar of the EU’s new AI strategy (see EUROPE 13542/13).

The document, to which Agence Europe has had access, sets out the ambitions outlined by the Commission when the first factories were officially launched last December.

The Polish Presidency of the EU Council wishes to promote these ‘factories’ as the backbone for relaunching European competitiveness in a wide range of areas, with specific solutions for each sector concerned.

The document also sets out the need to pay particular attention to European technological sovereignty, especially in terms of cloud computing services, and to guarantee reliable access to a mass of high-quality, interoperable data accessible via European infrastructures and repositories.

The Polish Presidency of the EU Council believes that the EU must invest in new energy-efficient solutions and put in place methods to assess the safety of AI systems in order to monitor their economic and social impact.

In particular, this working document is intended to serve as a report from the Presidency to the Member States and the Commission to guide the ongoing work on AI factories. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
