15/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – The 75th International Charlemagne Prize of Aachen, which rewards European commitment, was awarded for 2025 to Ursula von der Leyen, president of the European Commission, on Wednesday 15 January. “The European Commission under the leadership of Ursula von der Leyen has played a decisive role in ensuring that the EU has been able to face crises of historic proportions with unity and success”, the society’s Board of Directors said in a press release announcing the award. It wished to “honour an outstanding personality of a united Europe, one whose visionary, courageous and dynamic leadership will guide the Union with decisiveness and perspicacity through these times of profound transformations”. “This award touches me deeply, because the Charlemagne Prize carries Europe in its heart, our reliable anchor in turbulent times”, said the winner on X.
