On Wednesday 15 January, the Hydrogen Europe association called for the presentation of a Clean Industrial Deal, expected on 26 February, to remedy market failures and simplify regulations, while stressing the importance of the European hydrogen ecosystem in achieving “both the objectives of the energy transition and those of the European Competitiveness Deal”.
In a position paper, the association sets out a number of policy recommendations based on six key pillars: affordable energy and raw materials, simplification, demand for sustainable European products, global competitiveness, financing and skills, and just transition.
In particular, the paper calls on European decision-makers to put in place strategies for hydrogen imports, networks and storage, to revise the EU hydrogen strategy, to strengthen the European Hydrogen Bank, including its international element (see EUROPE 13526/10), to simplify the delegated act defining renewable hydrogen ('RFNBO') (see EUROPE 13220/35) and to rapidly adopt the one on low-carbon hydrogen (see EUROPE 13507/5).
