15/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 14 January, European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos explained that the European Union had reallocated funds initially earmarked for the Georgian government to civil society and independent media. “We have already reallocated €8.5 million from the government to civil society organisations and independent media, and we are working on reallocating another €7 million to communication activities”, she explained at the inauguration of the ‘Maison du MediaLab’ in Brussels. According to the commissioner, the EU’s aim is to step up its response to disinformation propagated by the leaders of the Georgian Dream. The EU has suspended the allocation of €121 million to the Georgian government because of the country’s democratic backsliding. (CG)
