06/01/25 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 6 January, the spokesman for the European External Action Service strongly condemned the recent occupation by the armed group M23 of the town of Masisi and the surrounding area in North Kivu, in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Considering that the continued advance of M23 is a flagrant violation of the ceasefire agreed upon under the Luanda process, the spokesman, in a statement, urged M23 to withdraw immediately and fully abide by the ceasefire. It also called on Rwanda to end its cooperation with M23 and withdraw its military forces from the DRC territory, and on the DRC to cease all cooperation with the Democratic Liberation Forces of Rwanda (FDLR) and other armed groups. “The EU stands ready to consider new restrictive measures against those responsible for sustaining the armed conflict, instability and insecurity in the DRC”, warned the spokesperson.
