06/01/2025 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission is granting €3 million in EU funding for a European festival of media freedom. It launched its call for proposals on Monday 6 January. Publishers, NGOs, universities, research centres and the media have until 1 March to submit their proposals. The successful candidate will have to commit to organising three annual editions of the festival, as well as creating and managing a platform for contributions and discussions. The festival will include discussions on legislation relating to media freedom, disinformation, the safety of journalists and the economic challenges facing the sector. The difficulty of the work carried out by journalists and the threats to press freedom in the EU will also be addressed. (FS)
