13/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – The General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) officially came into force on Friday 13 December. It guarantees a higher level of safety for non-food consumer products sold offline or online on the EU market. The new rules update two directives: the General Product Safety Directive and the Food Imitating Product Directive. In particular, this makes it possible to better take into account online sales and adapt to market changes in terms of direct imports from third countries. The Regulation will better respond to the challenges posed by the growth of online sales and direct imports from third countries. The European Commission estimates savings of up to €1.5 billion thanks to the updated rules and improved consumer protection. (IS)
