11/12/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 10 December, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service strongly condemned the massacre perpetrated by the Wharf Jérémie gang in the Cité Soleil shanty town in Haiti, which claimed the lives of more than 180 people, including many older people. They stressed the importance of full deployment of the United Nations Security Council’s Multinational Security Support Mission to end gang violence and protect the population (see EUROPE 13373/5). Only around 400 Kenyan soldiers were deployed last July. The spokesperson also reiterated the EU’s commitment to mobilising all available tools, including targeted sanctions, to restore peace and stability in the country. (BD)
