28/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – Following “various irregularities” raised by the Romanian authorities after the elections on Sunday 24 November (see EUROPE 13533/21) and attributed to the TikTok platform, the Commission confirmed on Thursday 28 November that a roundtable discussion would be organised between the main players. Scheduled for Friday 29 and organised under the Digital Services Act (DSA), it will bring together representatives from Romania, TikTok and other online platforms. “This is a procedure that we are used to following, we have already done it before the elections in Slovakia, and we do it before most elections within the EU”, said the European Commission spokesperson. In a statement published on Tuesday, the Romanian telecommunications regulatory authority (ANCOM) criticised TikTok for responding too slowly to moderate some of the “illegal content being broadcast”.
