28/11/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 November, the European Parliament called for a new general election to be organised, taking the view that the one held on 26 October was neither free nor fair. In the joint resolution they adopted by 444 votes to 72 with 82 abstentions (see EUROPE 13533/6), MEPs also called on the EU to impose sanctions, limit official contacts with the government and give greater support to civil society. The European Parliament also strongly condemns Russia’s systematic interference in Georgia’s democratic processes and considers that the policies implemented by the Georgian Dream are incompatible with Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic integration.
