Leaders of European political community to discuss challenges of migration and economic security in Budapest

On 7 November, the leaders of the countries of the European Political Community will meet in Budapest for their fifth summit (see EUROPE 13456/4) to address the security challenges facing Europe.

The morning plenary session will be devoted to these challenges. This will be followed by four round-table discussions on the themes of migration and economic security, including connectivity in terms of energy, transport, information technology and global trade. A second plenary session will be devoted to reporting on the round-table discussions. European Summit. In the evening, the leaders of the EU27 will meet for a dinner at which they will discuss the outcome of the US presidential elections on 5 November, as well as the outcome of the referendum in Moldova on 20 October to include membership of the European Union in its constitution (see EUROPE 13508/1) and the outcome of the parliamentary elections in Georgia on 26 October (see EUROPE 13514/4).

 

The following day, the leaders of the EU Member States will take part in an informal summit devoted to European competitiveness in the presence of Mario Draghi, author of the report on the future of European competitiveness (see EUROPE 13478/1), which could conclude before lunch.

The Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council is currently trying to bring discussions to a successful conclusion at the meeting of the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper), with a view to producing a final declaration on European competitiveness (see EUROPE 13515/10) for adoption at the informal summit.
