26/09/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday, 25 September, the chairperson of the European Capitals of Culture panel of experts announced that the Polish city of Lublin had been recommended for the title of European Capital of Culture 2029. The decision was taken following a three-day meeting, from 23 to 25 September, in Warsaw during which the experts assessed applications from the short-listed Polish cities: Bielsko-Biała, Katowice, Kołobrzeg, and Lublin. Twelve Polish cities had initially applied in response to the call launched in November 2022. In accordance with the Decision of the European Parliament and of the Council governing the European Capital of Culture Union action, two cities will be named in 2029: one in Poland and the other in Sweden.
