18/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 17 September, the European Parliament gave the green light to the EU Council’s formal vote on the directive on platform workers, as no request to reopen the dossier through a second reading vote had been sent to the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola. Following the opening of the plenary session, MEPs had 24 hours to reach the quorum required for another second reading vote, and therefore did not seek further confirmation. The agreement reached in February with the European Parliament (see EUROPE 13368/1, 13398/16) will be put on the agenda of a forthcoming EU Council meeting, potentially on 14 October at the Environment Council, although this date has yet to be confirmed. France and Germany were the only countries to abstain in March when the Council of the EU voted on the provisional agreement reached with the European Parliament. (SP)
