18/09/24 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 18 September, the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell, condemned the explosions of pagers carried by Hezbollah militants throughout Lebanon, allegedly organised by Israel. “Even if the attacks seem to have been targeted, they had heavy, indiscriminate collateral damages among civilians, including children among the victims”, he stressed in a press release. Around ten people are thought to have been killed, including a 10-year-old child, and almost 3,000 injured. Mr Borrell condemned these attacks “that endanger the security and stability of Lebanon, and increase the risk of escalation in the region”, describing the situation as extremely worrying. He called on all parties involved to avoid an all-out war, “which would have heavy consequences for the entire region and beyond”, while Hezbollah promised to punish Israel. (CG)
