17/09/24 (Agence Europe) – EU operation EUNAVFOR ASPIDES announced the successful towage of the Greek-flagged oil tanker MV SOUNION (see EUROPE 13474/14) on the evening of Monday 16 September. “Under protection of EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, MV SOUNION was successfully towed to a safe area, without any oil spill”, the operation announced on X, adding that while the private responders were completing the salvage operation, ASPIDES would continue to monitor the situation. “The completion of this phase of the salvage operation is the result of a comprehensive approach and close cooperation between all stakeholders committed to prevent an environmental disaster affecting the whole region”, the operation said.
