On Monday 16 September, the experts from the EU Member States within the Special Committee on Agriculture (SCA) examined a first version of the draft conclusions on the shape of the future Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).
According to the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council, the EU agriculture ministers should take advantage of the institutional transition to publish conclusions on the CAP after 2027, which is also highly relevant in the context of the strategic dialogue on the future of EU agriculture, which has completed its work.
Last week’s informal meeting of European agriculture ministers was devoted to this issue of the next CAP (see EUROPE 13479/4).
The draft conclusions are structured around six themes: the future CAP focused on farmers, strengthening farmers’ competitiveness, a farmer-friendly delivery model, incentives for farmers for the green transition, crisis and risk management, and research and innovation.
The Member States have made preliminary comments on the draft presented. Delegations will also have the opportunity to send written comments. The Hungarian Presidency of the Council will then update the draft conclusions and the SCA will discuss the revised version on 30 September. The Council will be able to ratify these conclusions in October or November.
The Agriculture Council meeting of Monday 23 September will take stock of the second year of implementation of the CAP’s strategic plans. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
