Estelle Ceulemans calls on EU to support workers at Audi plant in Brussels

17/09/2024 (Agence Europe) – New S&D MEP, Estelle Ceulemans (Belgian), coordinator of the European Parliament’s Committee on Employment and Social Affairs, expressed her support for Audi workers on Monday 16 September, her office said in a press release. A former trade unionist, she expressed “total solidarity with the workers at Audi Forest, who are facing an extremely worrying situation following the brutal announcement that production of the Audi Q8 e-tron model will cease and that it will be relocated to Mexico by 2027”. “The future of thousands of jobs in Brussels is at stake, as is our ability to maintain high-quality local production while developing green technologies, which are vital for Europe”, said the MEP. “Europe must stand by the workers”. “We need to develop policies that anticipate these restructurings to protect workers before they are faced with mass redundancies”, she added.
