On Tuesday 30 July, the European Commission announced the launch of a new tool, called ‘DMAT’ (Digital Maturity Assessment Tool’), to help small and medium-sized enterprises make the transition to digital technology.
Available free of charge online in 32 languages, this tool is managed by the European Digital Innovation Hubs (EDIHs) and is designed to enable businesses to assess their digital maturity according to six key criteria: corporate digital strategy, digital readiness, improving digital skills, data management, automation and artificial intelligence (AI) and green digital transformation.
The Commission believes that this digital maturity assessment tool will contribute to “achieving the objective of the Digital Decade”, namely the widespread adoption of AI, cloud computing and/or big data by European businesses.
It should be noted that in May, the Commission’s publication ‘Digitalisation in Europe’ took stock of the integration of digital services and resources within European businesses (see EUROPE 13416/6).
The study showed a fairly wide disparity between EU countries, with a greater trend towards digitalisation in the Nordic countries. Only 8% of companies in the EU make intensive use of AI, with Denmark and Finland the two countries furthest ahead on this front, at 15%. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
