30/07/2024 (Agence Europe) – Following the consent of the European Parliament and the EU Council for the EU/Chile association agreement, certain parts of this agreement entered into force on Tuesday 30 July, on a provisional basis. However, the ratification procedure has not yet been completed. The parts in force involve political cooperation, judicial cooperation and sustainable development. Ratification by all Member States could take several years. This is why an interim trade agreement has been signed between the two parties, which will come into force once it has been ratified by Santiago. The association agreement also contains a trade section, which will replace the interim agreement as soon as it comes into force. (LM)
