According to a press release from the European External Action Service, this aid will benefit 77,000 people in some of the most affected regions, particularly in the Sabaragamuwa, southern, western, and northwestern provinces. The funding, made available through the Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF), will enable the Sri Lanka Red Cross to provide household items such as clothing, hygiene products, bottled drinking water and “multi-purpose cash grants”. In addition, clean-up operations will be carried out to prevent the proliferation of dengue-carrying mosquitoes. (BD)
