01/07/24 (Agence Europe) – The European Cockpit Association (ECA), which represents European pilots, is opposed to aircraft that could fly with a single pilot at the controls from 2027, if the aircraft manufacturers’ initiatives are successful. On Monday 1 July, they launched the online platform OneMeansNone.eu, to inform passengers of the major risks associated with this crew reduction. “Pilots do not just fly a plane – we monitor each other and all flight aspects, manage aircraft automation and swiftly address any safety, security or operational risks in a very complex and fast-changing environment”, said Captain Otjan de Bruijn, Chairman of the ECA, in a statement. The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) is currently assessing the safety implications of the proposal for extended minimum crew operations (eMCO) submitted by these manufacturers. (AD)
