01/07/24 (Agence Europe) – The mandate for negotiations with the European Parliament on the proposed regulation on the welfare of dogs and cats was made public on 27 June, the day after the text was approved by the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States to the EU (Coreper). The proposal aims to improve the welfare of cats and dogs kept by breeders, sales establishments and shelters by ensuring fair competition and combating illegal trade (see EUROPE 13440/21). European Parliament/EU Council negotiations on this text will begin under the Hungarian Presidency of the EU Council, which also hopes to make progress during the six-month period on the proposal to improve the welfare of animals during transport.
