18/06/24 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 17 June, the EU’s agricultural organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) welcomed the position of the European Union’s environment ministers on the proposed directive on green claims (see EUROPE 13433/5). The Council’s position “takes into consideration the reality on the farms and gives the right flexibility for the use of carbon credits on the voluntary market”, according to these farming organisations. Copa-Cogeca welcomes the possibility, in the text, of applying the application verification process (‘simplified procedure’) to agricultural practices that already fall under the environmental framework of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). Copa-Cogeca hopes that these improvements will be defended during the forthcoming negotiations between the EU institutions. (LC)
