18/06/24 (Agence Europe) – In an open letter sent to President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen on Monday, 17 June, the Association of Chocolate, Biscuit and Confectionery Industries of Europe (CAOBISCO) calls for greater clarity on the Deforestation Regulation (see EUROPE 13404/5), which will apply starting from 2025. According to CAOBISCO, the companies concerned reportedly do not have access to all the necessary tools, even though these had been provided for in the text, to “minimise the risk of market disruptions”. In particular, CAOBISCO requests clarifications be made regarding the terms of the transition period, relations with third countries, and the obligation placed on operators further down the supply chain to verify ‘due diligence’ [has been carried out].
