13/06/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 13 June, the European Commission issued a call for expressions of interest, open until mid-July, to set up a honey platform with the aim of providing advice on improving traceability methods and monitoring the authenticity of honey. This call follows the recent adoption of the EU directive on the composition and labelling of honey (see EUROPE 13401/2), which came into force on Thursday 13 June. This directive requires the European Commission to propose, within the next few years, rules that include methods for detecting honey adulteration, and methods for tracing the origin of honey. This platform will bring together experts and stakeholders from the honey industry and civil society at least twice a year, starting in November.
