In late May, the ‘Comité Européen des Entreprises Vins’ (CEEV) unveiled its manifesto on the future of the European wine sector. Faced with the new challenges facing this sector, in which the European Union has international leadership that benefits it enormously, CEEV is calling for a specific approach to wine in policy-making.
CEEV has identified six priorities for maintaining a secure, competitive and sustainable wine market: - a more flexible Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to allow adaptation to the market; - reconciling the protection of tradition and innovation; - supporting the green transition; - reinforcing the European single market and reducing wine marketing costs; - maintaining an ambitious European trade strategy; - strengthening European health policy by making it more coordinated and pragmatic, in particular by differentiating between alcohol abuse and moderate consumption.
Finally, CEEV is asking the EU to confirm the role of the relevant parliamentary committee (AGRI) and the European Parliament’s ‘Wine’ Intergroup in the legislative process, and to step up assessment of the impacts of draft legislation to avoid certain inconsistencies.
