28/05/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 May, as she presented two important projects of common European interest, the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission for a Europe Fit for the Digital Age, Margrethe Vestager, stressed that the road to a new mandate as European Commissioner was uncertain. However, she has not indicated that she does not want another mandate in the college of Commissioners. “My party is not in the Danish government and that usually sort of slims down the chances to be reappointed. Even though, my party wasn’t also in the government the last time the Commission changed, and I do have had two mandates. So, one never knows”, she said. European Commissioners do not represent the State which is their country of nationality. They represent the interests of the EU. However, the decision to nominate a candidate commissioner rests with each Member State. (EV)
