28/05/24 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday 28 May, the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, announced emergency financial support from the European Union worth €150,000 to help the population of Papua New Guinea, which was hit by a landslide last Friday. The collapse of a section of mountain in the central highlands of the country may have buried more than 2,000 people alive, and the local authorities feared another collapse on Tuesday, AFP reported. “Our humanitarian partners are already on the ground. We are looking at further support”, said Mr Lenarčič on social network X. (BD)
