European Commission inaugurates new border crossing point between Ukraine and Moldova

On Thursday 16 May, the European Commission, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania and the United States inaugurated the new border crossing point between Ukraine and Moldova in Reni, Ukraine.

As part of the 'Solidarity Lanes’ initiative (see EUROPE 13377/20), the Commission has provided €11 million to support works at this border crossing point to allow for smoother traffic flow through the border and better connectivity between Ukraine, Moldova and Romania. “With our support, today’s inauguration of the enhanced border crossing between Ukraine and Moldova in Reni will further reduce the waiting times at the border, and thus increase the attractiveness of this route”, commented Adina Vălean, European Commissioner for Transport, in a statement.

Joint border controls between Ukraine and Moldova will speed up border crossings in both directions, allowing goods transported by road to reach their destination faster. The inauguration takes place in the context of regular talks between the EU, Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, and the United States on further increasing the efficiency of the Danube corridor for current and future needs.
