Following numerous complaints, European Commission is forcing Viagogo to review platform’s transparency policy

Following an exchange with the European Commission and Member States’ national consumer protection authorities, Viagogo—an online sales platform that specialises in the resale of event tickets—has undertaken to better inform consumers regarding the conditions under which tickets may be resold and to stop using excessive countdown messages to put pressure on consumers.

The European Commission had initiated a dialogue with the platform in April 2021 after a very large number of complaints were received by consumer protection authorities about the lack of clear information on taxes and additional fees.

It announced on Thursday, 16 May, that they had reached an agreement. Viagogo has committed to implementing several changes between now and this coming August: the sales website will notably have to include the delivery fees in the displayed prices and extend its redress periods for its users.

In certain Member States, legal proceedings are underway against Viagogo based on European consumer law or national laws. This decision by the European Commission does not affect those proceedings. (Original version in French by Isalia Stieffatre)
