Number of players in energy sector welcome proposal for new network code to meet demand

On Wednesday 15 May, SolarPower Europe, SmartEn, Eurelectric, the European Association for Storage of Energy (EASE), the All NEMO Committee, Energy Traders Europe and Europex co-signed a joint declaration supporting the new network code proposed by the European Network of Transmission System Operators for Electricity (ENTSO-E) and the Association for European Union Electricity Distribution System Operators (DSO Entity).

The code, adopted on 8 May, is considered essential to support the EU’s decarbonisation efforts, since it will enable distributed energy resources to participate and respond to demand on all energy markets through clarified regulatory provisions and harmonised implementation in the Member States.

The signatories therefore welcome this proposal, but call on the Agency for the Cooperation of Energy Regulators (ACER) and the European Commission to continue to refine and strengthen the code to ensure its effective implementation throughout the EU.

In particular, they are calling for the code to promote market-based flexibility, avoid protecting the status quo, be harmonised and recognise the urgency of decentralised and resilient energy systems.
