On Tuesday 7 May, the European Commission announced that it had allocated €125 million in funding to support vulnerable populations affected by the civil war, displacement and climate emergencies in Yemen.
This aid will focus specifically on food security and the fight against malnutrition, specialised health and protection services and demining actions. Programmes focussing on education and child protection will also benefit from this support, said the European Commission in a press release on Tuesday.
“More than half the country’s population continues to suffer the consequences of conflict, economic collapse, natural hazards and epidemics. A political solution is crucial, but it is our duty to provide vital aid to those in need”, said the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, on Tuesday.
In total, since 2015, the EU has allocated €1.27 billion in humanitarian aid to Yemen, where 18.2 million people are in need of assistance. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
