CAN Europe reiterates need for rigorous use and accounting of units in European Carbon Removal Certification Framework

On Monday 5 February, the NGO coalition Climate Action Network Europe (CAN Europe) published an open letter highlighting concerns about the regulation on a European Carbon Removal Certification Framework.

With inter-institutional negotiations due to conclude on 19 February (see EUROPE B13333A13), CAN Europe expresses its concerns about the use of certified carbon absorption units, financial instruments representing a reduction or absorption of one tonne of carbon dioxide.
