11/01/2024 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 11 January, with 55 votes in favour, 25 against and no abstentions, MEPs on the Environment Committee (ENVI) validated the provisional interinstitutional agreement reached last December (see EUROPE 12858/6) on the ‘EURO 7’ regulation. The text maintains the ‘EURO 6’ test standards and emission ceilings for cars and vans, while introducing more precise measurement of fine exhaust particles. For buses and lorries, stricter emission limits have been set, in line with ‘EURO VI’ conditions. The regulation sets ceilings for brake particulate emissions and defines battery durability standards for electric and hybrid vehicles. An environmental passport for each vehicle will be introduced, providing detailed information on environmental performance, energy consumption and battery condition.
