21/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 21 December, the European Commission initiated infringement proceedings against Bulgaria, Austria and Poland because these Member States have not yet submitted their draft updates of their National Energy-Climate Plans (NECPs) for the period 2021-2030. The deadline for submission was 30 June. The Commission therefore sent letters of formal notice, giving countries two months to remedy the shortcomings identified. In the absence of a satisfactory response, the Commission may issue reasoned opinions and take other measures to ensure compliance with the Governance of the Energy Union and Climate Action Regulation (2018/1999).
