21/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 21 December, the European Commission released a further €2.6 million in humanitarian funding to meet urgent needs in Mauritania due to the growing influx of people from Mali. This funding aims to strengthen the response to the food assistance needs of forcibly displaced people. This is in addition to the initial response of €500,000 released this month by the EU to meet the needs of refugees inside and outside the camps, as well as the €8.5 million in humanitarian aid already allocated to Mauritania this year (see EUROPE 13115/8). “We will continue to work with our humanitarian partners on the ground to meet the needs of the most vulnerable people fleeing Mali and finding refuge in Mauritania”, commented the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarčič, in a statement.
